Practice Exercise 1: While Viewing a Web Page
For this exercise, go to the CNN web site: http://www.cnn.com.
- Select Favorites -> Add To Favorites. Favorites can be found on the Menu Bar:

...or on the Toolbar:

You will see a dialog box, Add To Favorites, where you will answer OK. This will automatically add the bookmark to your Favorites file. If you want to add it to a particular folder, select Create In and select the folder.

- Go to the Favorite list (menu) again and you should see the bookmark that you just added.

Practice Exercise 2: Using a Shortcut Menu
While viewing a web page, you can add a bookmark for a link on that page (site unseen!) by using a short-cut menu.
- Go to the following web page: http://www.education-world.com
- Place your cursor over one of the hyperlinks on the page. (Remember, it should turn into a hand.)
- In Windows, right-click on the link and you should get a pop-up menu.
- On a Mac, hold the mouse button down on the link for a few seconds and you should get a pop-up menu.

- Select Add to Favorites; this will automatically place the bookmark for this link in your Favorites file.
Practice Exercise 3: Using Your Bookmarks
Practice returning to the pages you have bookmarked in this lesson by going to the Favorites menu and selecting the above three web sites (CNN, Fodor's, and Education World).
- Select Favorites from the menu bar or toolbar.
- Select the bookmark that you want to visit.
Bookmark Harmony
For those of you using both MS Internet Explorer and Netscape:
Would you like your Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer bookmarks to coexist peacefully? Take a look at a shareware program called NavEx. NavEx converts Favorites to Bookmarks and Bookmarks to Favorites. Isn't that comforting? (taken from TipWorld, Oct. 19, 1998)
